February 2010 - I tried an experiment and had fun with it and so this year I am going to repeat it.
I am going to celebrate February with a heart-a-day challenge and link it with each day from last year.
The original old English name for this time of the year was solmonap meaning mud month and seeing how squishy my garden is, it is an excellent name and should be re-instated!
February's present name harkens back Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome circa 700 BC who added both Januarius and Februarius to the Roman calender. Originally Februarius was only 23 - 24 days but in 46 BC, Julius Caesar reformed the Roman calendar by changing the number of days in many months including February making it more like the calender we are used to..
The Romans used to celebrate a Festival of Purification on the 15th but more relevant to us today is the February 14th when we celebrate Valentines Day.
Therefore, without further ado, I now present to you today's heart ..............
On a lock on an isolated gate.
Brought to you by my boys
We had been walking for what had felt like ages and there were some mutterings of mutiny by the boys.
.....I'm tired.....I'm hungry....my little leggies are tired.......are we nearly back yet?....
There was a bit of scuffling as they tried to both hold on to the lock.....photo taken.....then we triumphantly went back to our little pit stop, finished our picnic and set off, mutiny forgotten.
