Well, my knee.... umm. I keep being asked what is happening to my rather duff knee and up to fairly recently and despite being seen by 2 specialists (both of them surgeons) and despite having an xray and MR scan I was completely confuddled to what was actually 'broken' and needed mending but what I did know that 5 1/2 months after injuring myself, I still can't walk properly, I still can't fully flex or bend my knee and it is still damn sore!
Until tonight, when my boss (a GP) gently and thoroughly explained to me about my crook knee - now I understand!
Now I feel justified why I limp, why it constantly hurts, why I am being so pathetic about it - he did express his surprise at my 'stoicism' - and do you know what? I felt relief that someone in the know listened to me and understood how I felt.
I have completely ruptured my ACL (anterior cruiciate ligament) - completely torn through and (note this - AND AND) I have also torn the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
Now...this means two possible lots of surgery - a definite with the meniscus and if that does not fix my knee, then a second lot of surgery on the ACL (whic apparently is rather MAJOR) and entails lots of chopping off bits and re-attaching new bits of ligament and being in plaster for weeks and weeks *groan*........
If I am lucky then the lesser surgery on the meniscus will solve the nagging pain and limp and the locking and giving way of my knee and let me get my mobility back.
And if I am not lucky...... I don't even want to think about it!!
hey ho.
I will be hoping you are lucky!!
ReplyDeletethats awful, you poor thing
I think you've been managing extremely well, constant pain is hard to deal with. keep your chin up and hope for the best. I'll pop over and see you soon x
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain. Literally. Wasn't that the injury that Wayne Rooney and Vidic have had? You see, if you were a footballer earning millions, you'd have been whisked into surgery without a second thought! And look at their faces of agony when they did it! So, just concentrate on how brave you are (make sure everyone else knows too!) and I suppose more crafting time??? Good luck
ReplyDeleteJane x
Ouch!! A least you know the reason why now, I'll keep everything crossed that the laser surgery works xx
ReplyDeleteOuch, double ouch. Not only an ACL but also a PHMM! Sounds like a degree in hurt knees!! At least you now understand the problem better. :>)xx from us both.
ReplyDeleteOUch! Fingers crossed the first op goes well! At least you know why you are in so much pain now and that hopefully there is going to be a solution!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say??? I agree with Jane that potentially you are looking at lots of enforced crafting time.... I think I would have winged a lot more than you have done.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing, how much bad news can one get in ONE knee?! I hope you recover soon and without too many surgeries!
ReplyDeletexo,
wink
As someone who's had knee pain on and off for the last couple of years, I sympathise but my injuries were nowhere near the extent of yours (mine were just knee strain due to not paying attention when gardening to which both my GP and Wonderful Osteopath both told me I wasn't doing enough exercise, albeit the *right* kind of exercise).
ReplyDeleteseconding Jane's comment!
ReplyDeleteUnderstanding what is wrong helps massively
Hope it gets sorted soon
just caught up with your latest post - ouch! not surprised that it still hurts then with all that going on. Hope having a label has helped you feel more positive and at least there is a plan of action in place now (not that I'm belittling the potential surgery/s, of course)
ReplyDeleteSending positive thoughts your way x
owey owey ouch! don't know much about those official medical sounding words (and too scared to follow the links - bit squeamish) but it does sound very painful.
ReplyDeletefingers crossed and lots of hugs and healing thoughts to you and your knee. hope it's behaving itself soon :)x
