The clocks have turned back and the night closed in like a hastily drawn curtain forcing winter closer. Small comical ghouls flit through the night in their brand name costumes cheerily calling trick or treat not comprehending nor caring for the ancient reasons for their fright-night fun.
It is the beginning, not the end.
The circle has been completed and starts again.
A new year, winter is approaching - clearing, cleansing the land.
Seeds fall and lie dormant waiting for warmer soil and brighter skies.
Trees shed their tired leaves, resting themselves, refreshing themselves for the coming spring.
Year end - year beginning.
Time to celebrate.

Himself, not dressed to fright this year (I 'kindly' donated his costume to Eldest) had fun handing out sweets to the village monsters, most of them we know so a goodly banter was had at each visitation. At one point we were surrounded as groups of ghouls and pretty witches came to both back and front doors, we duly laughed and congratulated and teased the beauties and beasties and handed out sweet homage to their appearances. Our boys were staying with a friend - relieving the occupants of their sweet-booty in a neighbouring village. When they finally came home, successful and tired, both spoke alternatively, simultaneously, randomly and in tandem of their successful evening. A pile of grubby pirate and devil costumes dropped next to the washing machine confirmed their antics.
Year end - year beginning.
Time to celebrate.

Next weekend we have our celebration - we have family and friends over and fill the house with food and music. Last year our theme was 'Pirates' and a swashbuckling affair was definitely had. This year things are a lot more refined as we are having a 'Bollywood Night'.
Oh what glamour, the sparkle, the starlets and the heros.
And the food, and the food! - heavenly scented foods, spicy, sumptuous and succulent.
All palates and tastes will be catered for - hot or cool, vegetarian or raving carnivore! Oh what fun :)
Year end - year beginning.
Time to celebrate.

Outside I can hear stirrings, a new day threatens to waken, the occasional bird song, the milk man clanking and clinking the milk bottles as he tunelessly whistles while a car or two drive through the village fairly noiselessly. A peep through the curtains confirms it is still dark - I might try and catch a bit more sleep - life is back to normal this week - work and school demands time and energy.
Year end - year beginning.
Time to celebrate.
But not now, my pillow calls.
