A little treasure box that shelters my rings when I am not wearing them.
Made by Youngest at cubs and presented to me on Mother's Day
complete with little chocolates
wrapped up in crinkly red tissue.
Each little heart stuck on with generous globs of glue.
The wobbly handwriting.
I will always love it.
He will grow up and become a man
And this little box will keep safe a precious memory of his 8 year old self for me.
I will always love them, my boys, no matter what.
It is a binding, unbroken invisible cord that wraps my love around them.
I had never intended on having children, we were happy with just us and our cats. Then I discovered I was pregnant with Eldest and was horrified, I didn't think I could cope.
Something my Mom said to me was.... don't worry, they bring the love with them once they are born...
She was right.
But what she did not say was how powerful and unbreakable it was.
However, I still yell at them when I have had enough of their antics!!.......
I might love them dearly
but I am still the boss :)x

Yes, even though we love them, they still need to know out limits. As you know, Hawthorn, my children are out of the nest now (at least most of the time). I love to send them care packages full of their favorite goodies, but lately I haven't even been getting a phone call to let me know they have received the boxes. Hmmm....time to take a little break from the care packages, wouldn't you say?
ReplyDeleteHowever, I've been very melancholy since I've been sick. Too much time to think I guess, and I would love to have them back as children for a while. The time is just gone before you ever realize how wonderful it all is.
And in another 10 years, I'll be realizing that I didn't enjoy my empty nesting years enough because I'll probably be babysitting grandchildren (haha).
sigh...I get so lonely sometimes. I just have to try to stay busier. I'm going to start volunteering at the children's hospital next week, and I'm very excited about that.
Have a wonderful weekend and give those boys big hugs over and over again until they just can't stand it (haha)
Jan - I hope you are feeling better, it's rotten when you feel ill and you end up dwelling on things.
ReplyDeleteI went through a very lonely time when I returned from Africa, so ended up joining all sorts of things and got to meet some really lovely people. Hope the volunteering goes well x
