11am........

11am........
I'm so glad you popped in, I'll put the kettle on and you grab yourself a chair - a good a time as any to stop for a brew. Enjoy...

Deftly turning the lid, she began to shake the medication vigorously.
A sick child with
a distressed mother waiting.
Kindly, firmly she advises the dose and passes over the packaged bottle.
Then, with a slight, almost inaudible sigh, she greets the next patient.
His need is different, his need is the same.
They all want their prescriptions, their medicines, their pills.
Some days are good.
Some days are not.
But, it is a job,
my job.

And I enjoy it.

Small heads dart quickly picking up the pellets.
Our 'Chooky-girls'.
Egg layers, compost makers, slug hunters, boys pets.

An essential bribe - a mug of tea.
Also the obvious ideal tool for procrastination.

Before I can start studying - I need to put the kettle on....
Before I can start typing - I need to have a brew...
Before I can start researching - I need the comfort of the hot mug in my cold hands.....
Before I can even think about starting - I need that searingly hot first sip....
before....before...before....
But now, half empty, my mug is no longer the distraction I had once hoped,
so have to turn to the files and books and begin my coursework.

The heady scent of tomatoes fills the air, as I pick the last of the ripened fruit.
There are still many more bright green rock-hard gems nestling amongst the now decaying leaves - they too are collected to make sweet curried tomato chutney. link
Delicious.

The colours of autumn.

I can remember the sound of African rain - it rages, it tempers, it roars.
It drums on the tin roofs with such ferocity that it hurts to listen.
The sky is black with thunder and then as suddenly as it started - it is all over.

Here, today, the rain comes down in light flurries.
It falls from leaden skies that hang sullenly over the house.
Every thing sulks, trees hunch over in damp huddles and it is cold.

How differently the rain falls either side of the equator, yet equally wet.......

OCTOBER

01.10.09
I stared out of the window while at work.
The autumnal leaves were illuminated by unexpected sunshine. I was inside on a beautiful day.

The swallows have gone as have the long summer evenings.

Autumn has a seductive perfume of her own and I breathed it in today -
did you?
