Blankie update - well, after much discussion and brow furrowing, I have shelved the green/red/yellow blankie to finish another day and have taken up three more colours. I have also the added help I now know that the baby is almost certainly a boy so that has helped in colour choice!
Now, seeing you were so very helpful last time - I now have two queries for you -
Would you add a fourth colour? - say a stronger blue or purplely shade or leave it as just these three (I have been playing with the stripe maker and have definitely over striped myself!!)
....And - weaving in ends - what is the best way? I have tried a couple of ways and find that I always get a little 'tufty' bit left showing no matter how carefully I weave it in. Which on my own blankets I can live with but as a gift I would like to have invisible ends!
I am once again loving doing this blankie - my hook just flies along the rows and I am soon engrossed in the stripe making. It is one my fav-sis-in-law uses. The pattern is a repeating 1:2:1 of overlapping colours which at first glance doesn't seem to have a rhythm then suddenly as the rows progress the repetition begins to appear and looks wonderful.
Ok - the floor is open to you - suggestions please, I am off to work now so my crochet has to be *sigh* put aside for more sensible endeavours.

Your blanket is looking lovely! You could maybe put in a "non-blue" sort of colour as a contrast? I did a cushion cover in blue with stripes of sand, which I like because it looks seasideish :) It's here http://hook-and-yarn.blogspot.com/2011/05/seashore-cushion-ta-dah.html if you want to see. I'm sure whatever you pick will look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have the same tufty issues as you! So I just pull the yarn a little so that where I cut then pulls back underneath when I let go, then forget about it ;)
I like it as it is - much more pleasing colour combo. I'd need to see the fourth colour added to say any more.
ReplyDeleteAs to weaving in the ends, if I can, I use the new stitched to anchor them in and then when the blankie is finished, snip off any visible ends. However I suspect if the blankie is 'stretched' the hidden end will re-appear. So I await someone to tell you (and me) how to do this).
The ripple blanket is very pretty, I'm not sure I would add in another colour, although a darker blue may look nice, I have the poppy out ends problem on my crochet too, hoping someone puts an answer on your comments.
ReplyDeleteYour blanket is lovely. Stay with the odd number of colors!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely gentle colour combination I wouldn't add any more.I do the same as Jane on ends and find they don't pop out so much if I weave them in and then go back in the other direction too.
ReplyDeleteLove the new colour selection. I too have problems with weaving in ends. I have sort of solved it by weaving in as usual, then making sure I 'take a different route' go back again and sometimes for good measure take a right angled turn for the last bit, pull it slightly to make sure it won't pop out, then snip it off. Seems to fix it better...........usually!! :>)xx
ReplyDeleteI like the colours as they are, maybe do various rows of the same colour etc. And I don't sew in ends, I crochet them in & then cut off the excess.
ReplyDeleteI like the colours you are using! I don't think I would add any more. It would appear that the little tufty bits are a universal annoyance. I just trim them when they pop out if they are in an obvious place. Perhaps they are the small price we pay for home made goodness?
ReplyDeleteI like the colors you are using. I have a tip for the little ends. I have found using a fabric glue works. I take a toothpick, get a very small dollop on it, and touch the end of the yarn after snipping. Then when it pops back in, it stays there. As long as you use just a small amount, there is no problem. :)
